AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT

I’ve been Retro Report’s Engagement Producer since 2020, where I’ve helped develop the organization’s educator audience. Along the way, I’ve created, managed and/or helped shape multiple audience-centered products and projects. Here are some of them.

SHORT DOCUMENTARY ROLLOUTS

Role: Head of Engagement (2020-2024)

Retro Report is a nonprofit and independent news organization creating award-winning short documentaries for the classroom and feature-length documentaries for broadcasts. Between 2020 and 2024, I oversaw the rollout of over 40 short films. In addition to managing the social media team, I’ve directly worked on rollouts on the following capacity: copy editing, graphic creation, headline and SEO optimization, call-outs, social media strategy, partner relations, digital marketing (Google Ads, YouTube Ads, Meta Ads), archival research, impact reporting and data analysis.

RETRO REPORT IN THE CLASSROOM

Role: Newsletter Creator and Editor (Since 2020)

I built the subscriber audience for “Retro Report in the Classroom” from the ground up. Today, the newsletter is delivered every Monday to 15,000+ people working in education in the United States. Our list has been growing an average of 80% YoY while maintaining a CTR above 5%. I write sections of the newsletter, create A/B tests for subject lines and optimize the copy for engagement. CIVIC ENGAGEMENT CHALLENGE

Role: Project Manager (2024)

This student contest invited teens aged 13-18 to submit a 90-second video or 500-word essay answering one of four prompts provided. The contest received almost 400 entries, and was promoted on social media in partnership with the nonprofit organization Civics Unplugged. Eleven finalists won cash prizes. Learn more.

REFERRAL PROGRAM

Role: Product Owner (Since 2023)

I created and manage a registration referral program for educators that is growing on average 70% YoY. Twenty percent of new monthly registrations come through this referral program. CPC costs are under $2. Learn more.

SCREENINGS AND EVENTS

Role: Events Lead (Since 2020)

I organized Retro Report’s first online events on Zoom during the early days of the pandemic to connect with audiences on the topics of newly-released short films. Since 2023, I’ve been organizing in person documentary premieres and/or community events a year. Events will usually feature guest speakers, Q&As, a preview of a film and resources for the community. Many involve several stakeholders, such as publishing partners and funders, and target specific audiences.

Together, the events below have been attended by 500+ people and generated 1,000+ leads.
